Theodore sits beside your bed, trying to figure out the puzzle that Ginny sent him. His eyes glance at you, still asleep. The puzzle is serving as a distraction, but it can't keep his mind completely off of the fact that you are still unconscious. He rubs his eyes, then stretches and yawns. He hadn't slept much, since moving into the chair next to your bed. He's determined to be awake when you finally open your eyes.
His attention returns to the thousand piece puzzle in front of him. He finds another edge piece and quickly snaps it into place. Three more and the border will be done.
Ana's eyes slowly flicker - open quickly and then closed. It's like she's been floating underwater in this inky black space and has just now figured out how to swim to the surface.
Theodore catches the movement out of the corner of his eye and blinks, wondering if he imagined it. Not even realizing he's holding his breath he whispers, "Ana?"
Theo? She thought she had imagined your voice coming to her while she was swimming in that darkness, but now... "Theo?" Voice dazed and weak and very very small, and her eyes flutter again. It's an effort to keep them open, and her head is suddenly pounding, but she does - though she can't make you out, and she tries to get them to focus.
Theodore smiles, unable to contain how beautiful it is to hear your voice. He reaches out and gently takes your hand. "I'm here, Ana," he says softly, reassuringly.
Ana blinks quite a few times, until her eyes focus on you. Just on you, becasue she can't make out anything else in the room. Her head is pounding. "Where am I?"
"St. Mungo's," Theodore replies, his voice still soft. "You were taken here after the explosion at the Leaky Cauldron. You've been unconscious the past few days." Tears have formed in his eyes, and he blinks them away. He's overwhelmed. You're awake.
"Explosion? Days?" She frowns and tries to sit up but that just makes her head feel like it's splitting open and so she lays back down quickly. "What.... what happened?"
Theodore quickly places his hand on your arm. "Careful, there," he says. "You were hurt pretty bad." Realizing that you probably don't remember any of Saturday's events he says, "Remember when we were eating lunch with everyone at the Leaky Cauldron? It was attacked. You were injured... really bad. I've been so worried about you."
Ana blinks again, and the corners of her mouth curl up softly. "You... you were?" She sighs at that, then frowns. "Were...were you hurt, too?" Because even though she sees that you're fine, the idea that you could be hurting and still worried about her makes her tingly - and, in turn, worried about you.
Theodore smiles, slightly. "Yeah, not too bad," he says. "Broken arm. Broken ankle, couple crushed ribs. Nothing magic didn't fix pretty easily." He shrugs. "I was out a couple of days myself."
Ana frowns and feels, to her horror, a stinging behind her eyes which she blinks away as quickly as she can. Her head is throbbing. "Is there... is there a pain killing potion, or something?" Her voice small, and she looks at you from the corner of her eyes. He sat by my bed.. he worried about me...
Theodore nods. "You're going to have to sit up to drink it though. I'll help you sit up... Don't try to move on your own. The medi-wizard told me this might make you rather dizzy," he cautions. As he's talking he raises himself from his chair. Carefully concealing the pain that he's still in, he balances his weight to his good ankle. "You ready?" he asks.
Ana nods but just barely, not wanting to move her head that much. He's...helping me... like he cares.... "I'm ready..." And she waits for you to slide your hand under her shoulders before she tries to sit, only able to raise herself a bit, but it's probably enough to take the potion.
Theodore slides his arm underneath your back, and then slips into the bed next to you. "If this makes you dizzy, you can lean against me," he says. He reaches over to get the potion from the table that his puzzle is on. "Drink it slowly," he tells you, and he holds the cup up to your lips.
Ana's eyes fly to you when you crawl in beside her, but she needs it, she realises, and she leans into your side almost unconsciously. "Okay..." And then she begins to drink the potions. Swallowing in small bits, until it's gone. And she tries to move her arm up to yours, but that hurts something... something inside. And her hand goes to her chest in an almost shock. "Oh...why does it hurt?" Leaning even more into your side as that sudden movement does make her dizzy.
"Shhh..." he says, "relax." He lets you lay there for a bit, enjoying the feeling of you being so close to him. He waits for your breathing to calm down a little before explaining. "You suffered some internal injuries, or something. I'm not sure that I understand everything the medi-wizard told me, but I guess you were bleeding internally."
"Oh..." The word just a soft breath against your chest. She feels so... helpless, and so small really, like a child. But this is odd for her. Being able to lean against someone and feel that they'll protect her. She can't remember ever feeling this way before. Safe. No. That can't be it... Safe, with you? Without meaning to she settles more against your side, her head on your chest. Then, in a very small voice, "Have my parents...come to see me?"
Theodore has been annoyed with your parents, but hearing you ask for them turns that annoyance into anger. He takes a deep breath before responding. "No... they haven't," he says gently. "I'm not sure they got the owl from the hospital, so I wrote them a letter explaining what had happened, and that you were still at the hospital."
Again Ana feels like she's going to cry, and she tries to blink those back too, but it's not going to work. They didn't even care... "They.. they got the letter. You didn't have to write.. they... they don't care." And she has the stupid urge to just bury her head in your shoulder and let herself cry, but she's not that far out of herself to remember that that is unacceptable.
"I'm sorry, Ana..." You can tell by his voice that he's truly upset. How can they not care about her? he thinks to himself, she's their daughter. He's getting angry again, but he calms himself down. Very softly he adds, "I'm here though... I'm not going anywhere. I've been sitting by your side pretty much since I woke up."
She does begin crying at that. And she hates it, and hates that she can't even lift a hand to wipe the stupid tears away or to wrap her arm around herself. "Thank you..." Her voice very small and very broken.
Theo gently pulls you a little closer. He doesn't want to hurt you, but he wants to somehow protect you from what you're feeling right now. He softly brushes away your tears with his thumb, and says in a quiet voice, "It's alright, you can cry. It's just me..."
That just makes her cry harder, and she can't hide it. "I.. I can't stop..." A small and soft, but very defeated voice, and she lays her head against your chest, over your heart, her tears wetting your shirt.
"It's alright," he promises, "cry as much as you need to. You're safe, with me." He gently runs his fingers through your hair, just wanting to protect you. Realizing you trust him.
"Thank you....." And she keeps repeating that phrase, over and over, softly, as she cries into your shirt. He's touching my hair. She registers that in some part of her mind. After a few minutes though, her breathing becomes softer, her weight just slightly heavier against you. She's fluttered out of consciousness again.
He sighs as you fall asleep, his breathing a bit staggered. He's caught off guard, as he realizes just how much you mean to him. Someone he can trust, who he wants to protect, to take care of when you need him to. He's starting to realize all of this, and without really thinking, he dips his head down and kisses your hair ever-so-softly, and then leans back and allows you to sleep, his own eyelids growing heavier, as he can finally relax.
